A brush fire in California results in mandatory evacuations

A brush fire in the Newbury Park area in California has spread rapidly. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered. The Ventura County Star reports “Evacuations were ordered as firefighters battled a brush fire that broke out Thursday afternoon in the Santa Rosa Valley and grew to 8,000 to 10,000 acres, jumping Highway 101 and racing toward CSU Channel Islands.” Cars were apparently driving in the wrong direction on the 101 Freeway to get away from the fire. CBS Los Angeles reported “The 101 Freeway was closed between Wendy Drive and Pleasant Valley Road due to the fire. Some drivers were seen driving the wrong way to escape the flames.”
