Here is a look at satellite and radar this evening over the Gulf states. Multiple long-tracked tornadoes have touched down today. Some have been really violent destroying homes and businesses. A state of emergency is in effect for the State of Alabama where most tornadoes have occurred today. Tornado warnings have also been issued in parts of GA, MS, TN, and SC.
A high risk for severe weather was in place in the south, which is the highest threat for severe weather issued by the SPC. The SPC has since taken away the high and moderate risks for the night. However many still remain under an enhanced risk for severe weather.
A particularly dangerous situation tornado watch was also in effect for parts of AL, MS, and TN until 8 PM CDT. That has since been allowed to expire however, another tornado watch has replaced that one for some counties in Alabama. Read more from the SPC.
Curfews have been put into place for some cities and city EMA’s and mayors are asking for people to stay off the roads to allow emergency crews to work. 5 people have been reported to have died from today’s storms, all from Calhoun County in Alabama.
