The Kilauea Volcano on Hawaii’s big island erupted overnight sending the island into a red alert Monday morning. Lava was first seen in the crater of the volcano.
The eruption started around 9:30 PM local time in Hawaii. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory stated that they later observed an earthquake under the volcano that had a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale. A warning from the National Weather Service went out to the public telling people to watch for and avoid falling volcanic ash. The Kilauea is reportedly one of the most active volcanoes in the world and last erupted in 2018 according to NPR.
