The National Hurricane Center is now forecasting for Iota to be a CAT 2 when it makes landfall in Nicaragua or Honduras.

As of the 10 AM EST advisory max sustained winds are 40 mph and the storm is moving WSW at 5 mph. Pressure in the storm is currently at 1006 MB.

The storm is expected to continue to strengthen overtime before reaching land, again could become a CAT 2. Now, just because this storm won’t be a major hurricane doesn’t mean that those in these areas should let their guard down. Heavy rain is expected with this system that could cause flooding. The NHC also says expect strong winds and storm surge.
