What’s a severe thunderstorm?
A severe thunderstorms is classified as a thunderstorm that has winds greater than 58 mph and/or one (1) inch hail in diameter or greater.
What to do during a severe thunderstorm?
If caught outside in a severe thunderstorm find shelter immediately. Preferably indoors and away from windows until the storm has passed. A car is also a safe place to be in during a thunderstorm. Also, please note, lightning can strike out ahead of the actual thunderstorm.
You should also try to avoid electronic devices, anything metal, and standing near or under anything tall like trees and power poles during thunderstorms. You should also not stand outside, especially in a field.
